Nantwich Buildings

Today the town has 132 listed buildings and structures, with three classified as Grade I, seven as Grade II* and 122 as Grade II.

This page describes the history of some of these buildings and also buildings which are no longer present.

Brookfield House

Brookfield House was built in the first half of the 19th century. On the Cheshire Tithe Maps Nantwich architect George Latham is shown as the owner. In the 1849 Voters Lists, Thomas Deriemer is shown as being at Brookfield House. Thomas was a Nantwich grocer (and agent for the Royal Exchange Assurance company). He was still at Brookfield when he died in 1859.

Crown Hotel

The Crown is one of the oldest buildings in Nantwich. There is evidence that the cellars date back to at least the 14th century. It was destroyed in the Great Fire of Nantwich in 1584. The cost of rebuilding it, after the fire, was the highest of all the buildings in the town.
